The Art Story:
Purpose is to "Educate, inform, and introduce
people to modern art through speaker series, educational workshops, and online
educational resources".
For teachers who have not delved into the arts this
is a great resource for gaining understanding, appreciation and historic
elements of visual art movements across time.

everyone. Art Shed have knowledgeable staff who are dedicated to

Welcome to Music:
"Welcome to Music provides
original, traditional and world music education resources for Early childhood
and Primary/Elementary teachers and students".
Presenters Susie Davis-Splitter and husband Phil
present unique opportunities for teachers to participate in learning programs
which can boosts teacher confidence, including online programs and activities
with the tag line of 'making teaching music fun.
YouTube video: historyteachers:
This is a great series of YouTube videos by
'historyteachers' that puts historical events into lyrics and matches the
lyrics to popular songs. They're great for inspiring students to create either
their own musical parody or designing their own music video. You can find their
channel here. My personal favourite is Black Death set
to 'Hollaback Girl' by Gwen Stefani.
Ackroyd, J., & Boulton, J. (2001). Drama
lessons for five to eleven year olds. London: David Fulton.
As a non-drama teacher I found this book really
easy to understand and can appreciate that the lessons offered would be simple
and effective to implement, and would require little to no adjusting. I also
really liked how it helps incorporate drama into lots of different subject
areas traditionally 'off limits' to the arts, such as Science.
Sinclair C., Jeanneret, N., & O'Toole, J.
(2012). Education in the Arts (2nd Ed)
South Melbourne: Oxford University Press.
Dinham, J. (2014). Delivering authentic
Arts education. South Melbourne: Cengage Learning Australia.
The above two books were helpful in teaching me the
language of the arts and some strategies to implement when teaching the arts. I
especially enjoyed the case studies and key ideas both books offered as they
provided a context for the teaching strategies.
Task: Year 9 history class
Here is a task Kelda Ind devised for
a Year 9 history class while I was on teaching practicum at an
all girls school in Adelaide. It is based on Howard Gardner's Multiple
Intelligence's and covers a few options based on the arts. It went really well
and the girls seemed to really engage with it, especially the more creative
options. It would be quite easy to tweak and use for a primary aged classroom.
